LightWave 3D Helps Blast Jimmy Neutron Into Space and a Theater Near you!

January 1, 2002

First CG movie from a major studio to be completed with off- the-shelf software available to everyone

MACWORLD, San Francisco, CA January 8, 2002 - NewTek, Inc., manufacturer of industry-leading 3D animation and video products, today announced that DNA Productions used its LightWave 3D animation software to create, model, render and texture one of this season's hottest movies, Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius.

"We've been using LightWave for many years now and feel that it produces the best modeling and rendering on the market," said John A. Davis, co-owner, DNA Productions. "LightWave enabled DNA to produce the hit movie, Jimmy Neutron, under both time and budget constraints."

LightWave 3D was used to model, texture, and render every frame in the entire project. In addition, LightWave was used to animate all background characters and vehicles in Jimmy Neutron. DNA relied heavily on LightWave's integrated particles, volumetrics and Hypervoxels since the movie was very effects intensive.

Jimmy Neutron is the first computer generated feature film from a major studio to be done solely with off-the-shelf software that any consumer can buy. "It is a testament to LightWave that it was admirably up to the task of creating an entire movie," continued Davis.

"Most CG movies have twice the production schedule and three times the budget," Davis added. "Since we were under a real time and money crunch, we always knew we would use LightWave to produce Jimmy Neutron. LightWave is great for this kind of "guerilla film-making". It is a complete package that is very light on its feet."

"NewTek is really pleased to see Jimmy Neutron having such success as we've long been fans of John and Keith and their talented crew at DNA," said Jim Plant, President and CEO of NewTek. Many of our users have found great success using LightWave 3D because it is so accessible, yet obviously sophisticated and powerful. This project, coming out of a major studio and enjoying great reviews, showcases the value and power of LightWave 3D."
