LightWave 3D wins Apple MAC User Award

The annual UK Mac User Awards were hosted on Thursday, October 23rd and LightWave won the category of Best 3D Application. Here were the nominations:

Emmy win for "Inside the Living Body"

Digital effects company bandito has won an Emmy Award at the 2008 Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards in New York.

The digital effects company won the award for its visual effects work on the National Geographic documentary "Inside the Living Body".

The award was in the category 'Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Graphic Design and Art Direction' and is shared with effects cinematographer Dr David Barlow. Four other documentaries were nominated.

Steven Gomez, Managing Director of bandito, was thrilled to have won. "I was so shocked when they read out our names that I almost forgot to get up and collect the award! It was a fantastic but quite surreal experience; I floated up to the podium to make my speech."

The documentary was made for US television, and depicts the development and aging of the human body over a number of years. bandito produced highly detailed graphics using VoluMedic, which enabled Steven and his team to manipulate real CT scans to great visual effect. "We also put in a lot of meticulous morphing work ourselves. As a result, we were able to depict the human body with levels of visual accuracy that have never been reached before," Steven confirms.

Steven is proud of the hard work his team put in to win the award. "The project was a real challenge. But I’ve always believed in 'staying with the problem'. I believe that tenacity is what won us the award."
