Blackmagic Design Receives Certification for its Thunderbolt Video Solutions for PCs

IBC Amsterdam, The Netherlands - September 7, 2012 - Blackmagic Design today announced that its Thunderbolt™ based video solutions are the first to have been certified by Intel for video capture and playback with approved Thunderbolt computer hardware operating under Windows™. Blackmagic Design’s Intensity Shuttle and Intensity Extreme feature lightning fast Thunderbolt technology and can now be used with certified Thunderbolt hardware using Windows.

Intensity Shuttle and Intensity Extreme are available now from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide and Desktop Video 9.6.4 software update can be downloaded free of charge in September 2012 from the Blackmagic Design website. This updated software must be used for the devices to work properly with a PC.

With Blackmagic Design solutions customers can now capture and playback video using Thunderbolt technology with software operating under Windows. The fast 10 Gb/s transfer speed of Thunderbolt is perfect for capture and playback of compressed and uncompressed video including high bandwidth formats such as 720 HD and 1080p 60 HD. Blackmagic Design’s Intensity Shuttle and Intensity Extreme offer a range of different video and audio connections depending on the model, including professional 3 Gb/s SDI, HDMI analog component video, plus includes embedded and external digital audio and analog audio. Each Blackmagic Design solution benefits from being small in size, Thunderbolt powered, and incredibly portable. This makes them perfect for connecting anywhere to Ultrabook laptops, desktop and workstations for video capture and playback using Thunderbolt.

Desktop Video 9.6.4 software update for Windows includes WDM driver support so that Blackmagic Design hardware can be used with a massive number of Windows based video editing applications such as Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS6 , Avid Media Composer 6, Avid Symphony 6, Avid News Cutter 6, Sony Vegas Pro, Corel VideoStudio Pro X4, CyberLink Power Director and MAGIX Video Pro X4. A wide range of video effects and paint software is also supported including Adobe® After Effects® CS6, The Foundry Nuke and Adobe® Photoshop® CS6 with Blackmagic Design custom plug-ins. For broadcasters, automation and character generation software support for Windows includes Videocaster Pro & Studio & Broadcast, Uniplay, Playbox AirBox, CasparCG and Magicsoft CG. Also supported in Desktop Video 9.6.4 for Windows is Steinberg Nuendo & Cubase, Flash Media Encoder, Xsplit Broadcaster, Wirecast, Livestream Procaster and Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve 9. Virtually all QuickTime, DirectShow, WDM Windows software is supported with this update!

Desktop Video 9.6.4 also includes Blackmagic Design’s Media Express that lets customers capture, log, organize, playback and master their video projects with a free software application that can be installed on all computers they use for video production.

Developers can download and use Blackmagic Design’s free SDK and now benefit from the high transfer speed and plug and play simplicity of Thunderbolt technology when using Blackmagic Design hardware for capture and playback with Windows based video applications.

Availability and Price
Desktop Video 9.6.4 software update will be available in September 2012 for download free of charge from the Blackmagic Design website and will allow certified Thunderbolt products to operate on Windows. Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt and Intensity Extreme and are available now from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
