The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 features 8 standards converted 12G-SDI inputs, 10 x 12G-SDI aux outputs for external recorders and a 4 port 10G Ethernet switch. It also supports live streaming, talkback and optional internal network storage as well as a joystick for precise DVE control. ATEM Television Studio 4K8 will be available in July from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide from for AU$7,509.

The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2023 booth #N2601.

The new ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is a professional live production switcher built into a broadcast control panel so it can be used for high end work while being extremely portable. This means customers can use it in small venues that don't have the access for equipment racks or broadcast vans. Customers get a powerful switcher with 8 standards converted 12G-SDI inputs, 10 x 12G-SDI aux outputs, 4 chroma keyers, 2 downstream keyers, SuperSource, 2 media players and lots of transitions. Plus it includes a whole television studio of features such as hardware streaming, recording, audio mixer, talkback, multiview and optional internal network shared storage.

The ATEM Television Studio combines a switcher and control panel into the same unit, so it’s extremely portable. The front panel includes buttons for selecting sources, triggering transitions and setting up video effects. Plus the buttons are the same high-end type used on expensive broadcast switchers. Customers also get a built in t-bar for manual transition control. The front panel even has an innovative audio mixer control area with live metering on a dedicated LCD.

With 8 SDI video inputs, ATEM Television Studio lets customers connect multiple cameras for different views of the performance. Video cameras with SDI outputs, such as Blackmagic Studio Camera or Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, are much better quality as they have better low light performance and use professional lenses. All video sources will re-sync to the switcher, even if they operate at different video standards. Everything just works so setup on location is easy and customers don't have to worry about technical problems.

Customers can select from exciting transitions such as dissolve, or more dramatic effects such as dip to color, DVE squeeze and DVE push. Customers can even add a DVE for picture in picture effects with customized graphics. There are also media players which let customers store graphics with alpha channels for titles and graphics that customers can load as live video inputs. Then customers can live stream the results.

One of the benefits of ATEM Television Studio is the range of professional built in video effects. The t-bar fader can be used to transition video effects, or customers can do the transition automatically by pressing the auto button. There is a wide range of SMPTE wipes included, plus fun DVE effects that slide or squeeze the image off screen when transitioning between video sources.

ATEM Television Studio 4K8 also includes a joystick for positioning the DVE for custom picture in picture effects. With full 3 Axis control customers can adjust X, Y and Z positions of wipe patterns and position the DVEs. The joystick allows the DVE position to be set precisely and rotating the knob will change DVE size. Scale the size, position up, down or left and right for the perfect picture in picture effect. Plus, customers can also use the joystick to move the DVE and enter start and end keyframe screen positions for their own customized animated DVE moves.

The built in media pool stores broadcast quality graphics and animations that can be played back using the built in media players. For highest quality, all media supports RGB colorspace with alpha channel, allowing transparency and layering. The media pool can hold 20 HD or Ultra HD resolution stills. With the new ATEM Television Studio 4K8 model, motion graphics clips for animations and stingers can be up to 800 frames in 720HD, 400 frames in 1080HD and 200 frames in 2160 Ultra HD.

ATEM Television Studio is perfect for news and on-set presentation work because it features 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers for green screen keying effects. The chroma keyers are incredibly powerful and include features such as a color picker to sample background colors for automatic generation of the key parameters. Customers get precise controls for edge and flare, and there is even a foreground color corrector so customers can match the foreground and background layers for seamless compositions. The keyer can also be used for pattern and DVE keying.

In addition to the DVE in the ATEM Television Studio, there is also a powerful SuperSource multi layer processor. SuperSource gives customers 4 extra DVE layers plus a background layer, all layered together as an additional input source. SuperSource is perfect for doing multiple picture in picture displays with people being interviewed because customers can set up the effect so the viewer can see each person being interviewed all within a stylish graphic.

The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 has 8 12G-SDI inputs. Each SDI input has a dedicated standards converter so any 720 HD, 1080 HD or 2160 Ultra HD input source will be converted to the standard of the switcher.

The ATEM Television Studio includes up to nine SDI program outputs so customers get enough connections to send a separate program return feed to all of their cameras. That’s important because the SDI program return is used to send tally, talkback and control information back to the cameras. Customers also get dedicated aux outputs for driving stage monitors and master recorders. There’s also a dedicated 3G-SDI and HDMI output for the multiview.

With a built in Fairlight audio mixer, ATEM Television Studio makes it possible to do complex live sound mixing. The internal mixer features enough channels for all SDI inputs, as well as extra channels for the XLR, RCA and MADI inputs. Each input channel features the highest quality 6 band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, expander and noise gate as well as level and pan controls. The audio mixer is extremely powerful and it can be adjusted from the front panel using the dedicated audio mixer controls and LCD.

ATEM Television Studio includes a professional multiview that lets customers see all video inputs, preview and program on a single SDI or HDMI monitor. Each camera view includes tally indicators so customers know when each source is on-air, plus each view has custom labels and audio meters. Customers can fully customize the multiview layout with up to 16 simultaneous views.

ATEM Television Studio has a built in hardware streaming engine for live streaming to a global audience. That means customers can live stream to services such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitch in better video quality and without dropped frames. Streaming works using the Ethernet connection to the internet, or customers can connect a smartphone to use mobile data.

Customers can use any video software with ATEM Television Studio because the USB connection will emulate a webcam. That means customers can plug into a computer and use any video software that works with a webcam. That guarantees full compatibility with any video software and in full resolution 1080HD quality.

ATEM Television Studio supports recording to external USB flash disks. Or if an optional M.2 flash disk is installed, customers can record directly to internal network shared storage. The internal storage plus any external USB disks will be available to share over the local Ethernet network so other people can work on post production tasks such as editing, color correction and graphics preparation. All recordings are in H.264 format with AAC audio for broadcast quality video and small file sizes.

The ATEM Software Control app unlocks the hidden power of ATEM Television Studio by allowing access to all the features in the switcher. ATEM Software Control features a visual switcher user interface with parameter palettes for making adjustments. The software lets customers live switch, mix audio, color correct in the cameras and manage media. Customers can also build and run complex macros from the software.

If users are building a podcasting studio or customers need more microphones, then the ATEM Microphone Converter allows audio input expansion. It connects to the ATEM Television Studio using the MADI port, so there's no complex setup and customers can daisy chain units to add more inputs. Each converter has 4 analog inputs that are mic/line selectable and have phantom power. The design features amazing quality with an extremely low noise floor of -129dBV, a dynamic range of 131dB(A), low distortion of 0.002% and uniform tolerances across all channels. It even uses 8 separate ADCs on each input to collectively extend the dynamic range. Plus it has a fun HDMI monitoring output with scrolling audio waveforms.

“Recently we launched the new ATEM Television Studio HD range, and customers have been very happy with them,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “However we’ve also been working on a 4K model. The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is exciting as it has 10 independent 12G-SDI outputs which can be used for external recording. That’s great for when customers want a high quality solution for multi-cam editing as all outputs are in sync and have matching timecode with full audio mapping.”

Blackmagic Design Announces New ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K
New 4K model combines all the powerful ATEM Constellation HD broadcast features with 40 x 12G-SDI standards converted inputs.

NAB 2023, Las Vegas, USA - Sunday, April 16, 2023 - Blackmagic Design today announced ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K, a new Ultra HD model of the ATEM Constellation family with 40 x 12G-SDI standards converted inputs with support for standards up to Ultra HD 2160p60. Featuring the same powerful features as the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD, this new 4K model has 24 x 12G-SDI aux outputs, 16 upstream ATEM advanced chroma keyers, 4 downstream keyers, 4 Ultra HD media players, 2 SuperSource processors and more. ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K will be available in June from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for AU$13,945.

The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2023 booth #N2601.

ATEM Constellation switchers feature a compact rack mount design with a built in control panel. This allows operation of the switcher, critical during setup or for emergency use. Also included is a large LCD so customers can see program output and change switcher settings via on screen menus. The compact design is perfect for portable live production, with the rear of the switcher including connections for 3G-SDI or 12G-SDI inputs, aux outputs, balanced audio and Ethernet for control. The top 4 M/E models even include RS-422 for serial control and MADI digital audio connections.

ATEM Constellation switchers are ideal for concerts and music festivals because customers can place cameras on all areas of the stage for amazing coverage. Even live sports benefit from the huge number of inputs and DVEs that let customers build multi-layer compositions to cover the action. The fastest way to produce programming is live. With powerful internal graphics and lots of ATEM advanced chroma keyers, customers get everything customers need for complex program production. ATEM Constellation is also perfect for house of worship programming as it’s big enough to allow professional results, but it’s very simple to learn so it’s easy to train a volunteer crew.

With a control panel built into the front panel, customers can simply walk up and operate the ATEM Constellation at any time. Plus the front panel control buttons are the same premium type used on full sized panels so they are extremely reliable. Customers can even control keyers, media and fade to black from the front panel. Plus the front panel LCD and menu buttons also allow almost every single operational feature of the switcher to be accessed.

The ATEM Constellation family has a massive number of fully independent outputs. These SDI outputs are very powerful because customers can independently route any SDI input or any internal source to each SDI output. That’s perfect for running independent feeds to stage screens, master recorders and streaming processors. Or use the SDI outputs for ISO recorders, where each deck will get a resynchronized switcher input with matching timecode. All SDI outputs contain program audio, RP-188 timecode, SDI camera control, tally and talkback.

For live streaming, the USB-C connection on ATEM Constellation operates as a webcam source. The software is tricked into thinking the ATEM Constellation is a common webcam, but it's really a live production switcher. That guarantees full compatibility with any video software in full resolution 1080HD quality.

The built in multiview lets customers monitor multiple sources on a single monitor. The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation models have 4 independent multiviews. All external SDI inputs, plus all internal video sources can be routed to any view. All multiviews are fully customizable and can be independently set to 4, 7, 10, 13 or 16 simultaneous views. Customers can add the tally border plus source label and VU meters as an overlay on each view. Plus a red and green border will show tally on each view, so customers know what sources are on air.

ATEM Constellation features up to 4 independent DVEs, depending on the model, that let customers reposition graphics and create picture in picture compositions. Customers get amazing quality and the DVE supports position, resize and scale, all in real time. The DVE lets customers create professional picture in picture effects with customizable 3D borders, shadows and lighting. DVEs can also be used to create amazing DVE transitions with squeeze and swoosh effects for adding excitement to their programming. Customers can even combine DVE transitions with custom graphics to create their own graphic wipe transitions. The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K includes 2 SuperSource processors for even more DVEs.

To keep crews working as a single creative team, ATEM Constellation features built in talkback. Talkback supports a 5 pin XLR headset connector, plus a rear mounted RJ12 connector for interfacing with industry standard talkback systems such as ClearCom or RTS. Customers get full talkback control including program and engineering loops, sidetone control for hearing the headset mic into the headphones and program mix. ATEM Constellation also supports SDI talkback that uses SDI channels 15 and 16 for 2-way communication with Blackmagic Design cameras. Customers can even use channels 13 and 14 for engineering talkback.

The built in media pool stores broadcast quality RGBA graphics and animations that can be played back instantly by the 4 media players. The built in media pool holds graphics for use with the media players and the 4 M/E models can hold 60 stills and up to 400 frame animations.

For news or virtual set work, ATEM Constellation is perfect as it features lots of ATEM advanced keyers for high quality chroma or luminance keying. The chroma keyer is incredibly powerful and features a color picker to sample background colors for automatic generation of the key parameters. Customers get precise controls for edge and flare, and there is even a foreground color corrector so customers can match the "look" of the foreground layer to the background layer making seamless compositions possible. The keyer can also be used for pattern and DVE keying. Customers get 16 ATEM Advanced Keyers on the 4 M/E models.

With 4 upstream chroma keyers per M/E row, customers get the perfect solution for building virtual sets. With so many ATEM advanced chroma keyers, customers can use a keyer per camera to create a seamless composition of the camera over the custom background. Customers can use external image processors for virtual sets, or customers can even build a fixed camera virtual set by loading pre rendered still image backgrounds from the media players and media pool. Customers can setup macros to change cameras and load the correct background into the media players. With so much flexibility, customers can experiment to try out different studio setups.

In addition to the DVEs in the M/E rows, the 4 M/E models include 2 powerful SuperSource multi layer processors with 4 extra DVE layers plus a background layer, that all appear to ATEM Constellation as an additional input source. Any switcher video input can be used for each SuperSource DVE, then it’s all layered together over a media pool custom background. SuperSource is just like having an extra multi-layer VFX switcher built in. SuperSource is perfect for doing picture in picture displays for interviews because customers can set up the effect while keeping the main DVEs free for other tasks.

The SDI inputs will also handle embedded audio and mix audio from all video inputs. The program outputs include talkback, tally and camera control information. So customers can connect any of the switcher SDI outputs back to the camera for program return, camera control, and talkback.

With a built in Fairlight audio mixer, the ATEM Constellation makes it possible to do extremely complex live sound mixing. The internal mixer has up to 156 input channels, for the biggest audio mixer in a live production switcher. Audio is de-embedded from all the SDI video inputs and passed to the audio mixer. Then the 4 M/E models have extra audio mixer input channels for the MADI audio inputs. Each input channel features the highest quality 6 band parametric EQ and compressor, limiter, expander and noise gate as well as full panning. Customers get extra channels for the analog input, talkback microphone and media players. All this audio power can be controlled via the ATEM Software Control or a Mackie compatible panel.

Only ATEM Constellation has such as wide range of control panel options with 3 models of ATEM Advanced Panels available. ATEM Advanced Panels feature an industry standard, familiar M/E style layout. Each panel has built-in LCDs for menus, high quality buttons with customizable illumination color, a DVE joystick plus T-bar fader. All rows of M/E buttons include integrated LCDs for dynamic input button labeling. The massive 4 M/E model features 4 M/E rows with 40 input buttons per row and 4 independent system control LCD screens.

"We are excited to introduce the massive 4K model of the ATEM Constellation family," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “The ATEM Constellation HD models have been incredibly popular since they were released at NAB last year. Since then customers have been asking us for a 12G-SDI Ultra HD model which they can use in HD live production now as well as Ultra HD in the future!”

Blackmagic Design Announces DaVinci Resolve 18.5
Major update adds new AI based tools, new Resolve FX, text based editing, speech to text and audio classification, new Cut page menus and Fusion USD support for faster workflows.

NAB 2023, Las Vegas, USA - Sunday, April 16, 2023 - Blackmagic Design today announced DaVinci Resolve 18.5, a major new update which adds new AI tools, over 150 feature upgrades such as Resolve FX relight, speech to text editing, automatic subtitling, AI audio classification, Universal Scene Description file support and new menus on the Cut page that let customers work faster while allowing more time for being creative. DaVinci Resolve 18.5 public beta is available for download now from the Blackmagic Design website.

DaVinci Resolve 18.5 will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2023 booth #N2601.

DaVinci Resolve 18.5 introduces dozens of new tools including 4 new AI tools, over 150 feature upgrades, and major updates to the Cut page. Editors can now transcribe audio within clips to search for media based on narrative content, or quickly generate subtitles for timelines with the automatic speech to text feature. DaVinci Neural Engine AI can analyze and automatically sort audio clips based on classification, and on the Fairlight page audio tracks can now be grouped for faster mix automation and editing. Colorists can use the new Relight FX to add virtual lighting to a scene. VFX artists can collaborate more easily with support for USD files and work faster with the multi-merge tool.

Customers can now initiate remote monitoring using just a Blackmagic ID and a session code. Just enable remote monitoring in DaVinci Resolve and share their code, without having to deal with IP addresses and port forwarding. Customers can stream to multiple computers, iPads or even iPhones all at the same time. Customers can also now export their timeline to the Blackmagic Cloud using the new Presentations feature which is in public beta for customers with project libraries. With Presentations, multiple people can review their timeline, leave comments and even share a live chat. Comments will appear as markers on their DaVinci Resolve timeline, allowing customers to act on feedback quickly.

On the color page, DaVinci Resolve color management can now be configured on a timeline level. Any existing custom timelines are automatically initialized to color management settings from the project. This allows the setting of independent timeline and output color spaces per timeline for projects with mixed media. The new Relight FX lets customers add virtual light sources into a scene to creatively adjust environmental lighting, fill dark shadows or change the mood. Light sources can be directional to cast a broad light, a point source, or a spotlight and be adjusted for surface softness and specularity control. The Color page viewer now supports marker overlays and annotations for timeline and clip markers.

The addition of three new menus to the Cut page timeline allows for quicker and more flexible editing. Use the timeline options, timeline actions and edit actions to toggle ripple editing, trim edit points to the playhead, resync audio, and change the appearance of the timeline and more. Scene cut detection is also now possible directly on the Cut timeline. Simply navigate to the timeline menu and click ‘detect scene cuts’. Selected clips will be analyzed for content and cut points automatically placed on every new edit in the rendered clip. Customers can modify or remove trim points as needed.

The Cut page has a new ripple button which enables and disables rippled edits. Previously edits were always rippled, now by disabling the ripple button the duration of the edit will be preserved so customers can create gaps in the timeline. Customers can hold the option key to disable ripple for that edit only. Split A/V allows the edit point for video or audio to be adjusted separately. Simply drag the lower part of a clip to separately adjust the audio track, allowing the dialogue to be heard before or continue after the video clip is seen. Editors can now creatively focus visual attention on the scene using audio to add interest, drama and even tension to dialogue scenes on the Cut page.

The auto subtitle feature on the Cut and Edit pages transcribes speech to text automatically into a subtitle track on the timeline. To activate, simply click ‘create subtitles from audio’ in the timeline menu. Once analyzed, click the individual captions to modify them in the inspector.

Speech to text editing has also been added in the ‘transcribe’ feature which automatically transcribes video and audio clips. Customers can search for specific terms or jump to the section of a clip where a word appears. Instead of listening to entire scenes or interviews, customers can quickly locate the topic they need and add it to their timeline saving countless hours.

Content creators can now upload videos directly to TikTok by simply signing in to their TikTok account in preferences, and using either the render preset in the Deliver page or the quick export dialog. A new option for vertical aspect ratio output makes creating content for social media even easier.

Support for the OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) format makes importing and exporting timelines from other NLE applications faster and easier. OTIO supports metadata for clips, timing, tracks, transitions and markers, as well as information about the order and length of cuts and references to external media. Plus customers can also now quickly backup and restore their work by enabling per timeline backups in preferences. Modified timelines will be backed up locally for both collaborative and non collaborative projects on local, network and Blackmagic Cloud project libraries for greater security on multi user projects.

Fusion now supports Universal Scene Descriptor files for easier collaboration between VFX artists. USD data such as geometry, lighting, cameras, materials and animation can be imported. Fusion’s new USD tools let customers manipulate, re-light and render files using Hydra-based renderers such as Storm. The new multi-merge tool lets customers merge numerous media sources into a single multi layer stack, so it’s easier to create composites by merging clips, stills or graphics using layers. Each layer has its own controls, so customers can still change individual properties like position, size and apply modes. The native AI based Depth Map tool is now also supported in Fusion Studio.

Audio engineers are now able to combine related audio tracks or mixer channels into groups, enabling shared mix automation or editing operations. When creating groups, customers can determine the parameters they will share. Groups can be nested, or temporarily suspended to quickly switch focus to smaller groups or individual tracks. The DaVinci Neural Engine can now classify audio clips based on their content, making editing choices faster when reviewing unfamiliar materials. After analysis, audio clips appear in bins cateorized for dialogue, music and effects with detailed sub categories such as explosions, water or insects.

When using elastic wave processing to retime audio clips, the new ‘voice’ option offers natural sounding, high quality results when changing the speed of dialogue or singing, even when using more extreme keyframing.

“This is a major new release with tools that have been specifically designed to speed up workflows,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “The AI tools such as Resolve FX relight which adds light source tools for colorists, Universal Scene Descriptor files for improved collaboration with VFX artists, AI audio classification for audio engineers and speech to text editing all speed up project workflows and allow customers more time to be creative. The new menus on the cut page, also make it faster and simpler to use. I can’t wait to hear how customers have used these new tools to work not only faster but also more creatively.”

New Camera 8.1 update adds support for shooting vertical aspect ratio video to all Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras.

NAB 2023, Las Vegas, USA - Sunday, April 16, 2023 - Blackmagic Design today announced Blackmagic Camera 8.1 update which adds support for vertical aspect ratio video to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, allowing users to create cinematic vertical video for platforms such as TikTok. This update adds automatic rotation of the camera’s on screen HUD and automatically tags files as vertical so they display correctly when imported for editing, making it much easier to both shoot and edit vertical content. Blackmagic Camera 8.1 update is available for download now from the Blackmagic Design web site.

Blackmagic Camera 8.1 will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2023 booth #N2601.

Blackmagic Camera 8.1 update allows customers to easily create cinematic content for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and more. Simply rotate the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera to shoot vertical aspect ratios such as 9:16 and 4:5. The on screen HUD rotates so critical information, such as frame rate, shutter angle and frame guides, are easy to view, even when the camera’s turned upside down. Customers can even switch on frame guides so important details stay in shot for different aspect ratios. When customers import their files into DaVinci Resolve, clips are automatically tagged as vertical so they appear correctly in their timeline. Once customers have finished their project, it’s easy to upload to their channel with direct exporting to TikTok and YouTube.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is better than a simple video camera because it has professional features allowing customers to create the same "look" as Hollywood feature films. The combination of high dynamic range, great low light performance and Blackmagic RAW gives customers feature film images with precise skin tones and gorgeous organic colors. Customers get advanced features such as 4K, 6K G2 or 6K Pro models, large 5" LCD for easy focus, SD card and CFast media, external USB-C media disk recording, EF or MFT lens mounts and more. DaVinci Resolve Studio is also included for editing, color correction, audio post and VFX.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K features a native sensor resolution of 4096 x 2160, while the 6K models have a native resolution of 6144 x 3456. Whether users are shooting in bright sunlight or in almost no light at all, the 13 stops of dynamic range with dual native ISO up to 25,600 provide stunning low noise images in all lighting conditions. Plus the 6K models feature a larger Super 35 sensor that allows shooting with a shallow depth of field and anamorphic lenses. All models let customers shoot up to 60 fps in full resolution or 120 fps windowed. An amazing sensor combined with Blackmagic color science means customers get the same imaging technology as the most expensive digital film cameras.

With 3 models, customers can choose between EF or MFT lenses, making Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera compatible with the largest range and most popular lenses in the world. The 6K models feature an EF lens mount so customers can use lenses customers already own from other cameras such as DSLR, URSA Mini Pro or even the original Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Customers can use commonly available photographic lenses that provide incredible creative choice and wonderful feature film quality lens effects. The active lens mount lets customers adjust focus and iris from the buttons on the camera or the touch screen. For even greater flexibility, the MFT lens mount on the 4K model can be adapted to PL, C, EF or other lens types.

The distance between the lightest and the darkest parts of an image is called dynamic range and is measured in stops. Pocket Cinema Cameras have an incredible 13 stops of dynamic range which means they preserve more detail in the lightest and darkest areas of an image than simple video cameras can. This allows customers to set exposure for an indoor scene such as a cafe and still retain the details of bright outdoor light coming through a window. Customers also get more colors than the standard DCI-P3 colorspace used for feature films. Plus DaVinci Resolve Studio is included with the camera, so customers get total creative freedom with full exposure adjustment and recovery controls when color grading.

Depending on the model, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can shoot in all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD up to DCI 4K and even 6K. Customers can shoot stills at 21.2 megapixels on the 6K models and 8.8 megapixels on the 4K model. The 6K models will shoot up to 50 fps at 6144 x 3456 16:9 or 60 fps at 6144 x 2560 2.4:1 and 60 fps at 5744 x 3024 17:9. For higher frame rates customers can window the sensor and shoot up to 120 fps at 2.8K 2868 x 1512 17:9. Customers can even work in true anamorphic 6:5 using anamorphic lenses in 3.7K 60 fps at 3728 x 3104. On the 4K model customers can shoot up to 60 fps 4K DCI at 4096 x 2160 and 60 fps in Ultra HD at 3840 x 2160. Customers can even shoot 120 fps in 1080HD.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features a large, bright 5 inch touchscreen that makes it easy for customers to frame shots and accurately focus. On screen overlays show status and record parameters, histogram, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame guides and more. Customers can quickly apply 3D LUTs for monitoring shots with the desired color and look. The LCD monitor on the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 and Pro models is a more advanced display that can be tilted up and down so it's easy to monitor their shot from any position. Plus the 6K Pro model’s HDR display features 1500 nits of brightness, ideal for use in bright sunlight.

With the advanced Blackmagic OS, customers get an intuitive and user friendly camera operating system based on the latest technology. The interface uses simple tap and swipe gestures to adjust settings, add metadata and view recording status. Customers also get full control over advanced camera features such as on screen focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings and more.

All Pocket Cinema Camera models include a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is the same software used in Hollywood for creating high end feature films, episodic television shows, commercials and more. DaVinci Resolve features the new cut page with intelligent editing tools and innovative new features designed to help customers quickly find the footage customers want, edit it together and output it fast. In addition to the new cut page, customers also get DaVinci’s legendary professional editing, advanced color correction, audio post and visual effects tools, all in a single software application.

"Our customers love the incredible cinematic look of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, especially when creating content for streaming platforms like YouTube," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. "They have been asking for a way to make shooting vertical video for TikTok or YouTube Shorts easier. We’ve been able to do that with this update, not only making it easier to shoot vertical video but also edit it with a new preset in DaVinci Resolve. All customers need to do is rotate the camera! We’re excited to offer this update to Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera owners and we can’t wait to see how it helps their workflows!”

Blackmagic Design Announces Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF
The world’s most advanced digital film camera now available with a high performance optical low pass filter for cinematic virtual production.

NAB 2023, Las Vegas, USA - Sunday, April 16, 2023 - Blackmagic Design today announced Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF, a new model of the world’s most advanced digital film camera which adds a high performance optical low pass filter to the 12K Super 35 image sensor. The OLPF reduces artifacts such as moire and aliasing, while preserving the color and critical image detail Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K is renowned for. Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF is available immediately from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for AU$9,895.

Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K is a revolution in digital film with a 12,288 x 6480 12K Super 35 sensor and 14 stops of dynamic range, built into the award winning URSA Mini body. The combination of 80 megapixels per frame, new color science and the flexibility of Blackmagic RAW makes working with 12K a reality. Oversampling from 12K gives customers the best 8K and 4K images with the subtle skin tones and extraordinary detail of high end still cameras. Customers can shoot at 60 fps in 12K, 120 fps in 8K and up to 240 fps in 4K Super 16. URSA Mini Pro 12K features an interchangeable PL mount, as well as built in ND filters, dual CFast and UHS-II SD card recorders, a SuperSpeed USB-C expansion port and more.

When shooting in virtual production environments, the high frequencies of the LED matrix in video walls can cause problems for ultra sharp modern lenses and high resolution sensors, creating interference patterns. Using an optical low pass filter minimizes that interference, which results in a reduction of moire and aliasing. URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF adds a high performance, optical low pass filter that is precisely matched to the 12K sensor. The OLPF also incorporates updated IR filtering that improves far red color response which, when combined with Blackmagic RAW processing for the URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF, preserves color and critical image detail for new levels of image fidelity.

URSA Mini Pro 12K’s extreme resolution goes well beyond traditional motion picture film. Customers get the benefits of shooting with film including incredible detail, wide dynamic range and rich, deep color. Perfect for feature films, episodic television and immersive, large format IMAX. The incredible definition around objects makes it ideal for working with green screen and VFX including compositing live action and CGI.

The Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K features a revolutionary new sensor with a native resolution of 12,288 x 6480, which is an incredible 80 megapixels per frame. The Super 35 sensor has a superb 14 stops of dynamic range and a native ISO of 800. The new 12K sensor has equal amounts of red, green and blue pixels and is optimized for images at multiple resolutions. Customers can shoot 12K at 60 fps or use in-sensor scaling to allow 8K or 4K RAW at up to 120 fps without cropping or changing their field of view. URSA Mini Pro’s interchangeable lens mount lets customers choose from the widest range of vintage and modern cinema lenses, so customers can capture every ounce of character and detail from their favorite optics.

The URSA Mini Pro 12K sensor and Blackmagic RAW were designed together to make 12 bit RAW workflows in 12K effortless. As an incredibly efficient next generation codec Blackmagic RAW lets customers shoot 12K and edit on a laptop, a capability that simply isn’t possible with other codecs. The massive resolution of the sensor means you can reframe shots in post for delivery in 8K and 4K. It’s like a multi camera shoot with only one camera. And it’s perfect for great looking vertical and square video, too. The advanced design of the sensor and Blackmagic RAW means that customers can work in any resolution in post production instantly, without rendering, while retaining the full sensor’s color accuracy.

Shooting RAW in 12K preserves the deepest control of detail, exposure and color during post. Oversampling means customers get extremely sharp 8K without harsh edges. Best of all, Blackmagic RAW is designed to accelerate 12K for post production, making it as easy to work with as standard HD or Ultra HD files. It is highly optimized, multi‑threaded, works across multiple CPU cores and is also GPU accelerated to work with Apple Metal, CUDA and OpenCL. So customers can always work with their camera RAW files without having to make proxies. Blackmagic RAW 12K images provide unprecedented resolution and quality for color, keying, compositing, reframing, stabilization and tracking in 4K or 8K.

Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science features a new film curve designed to make full use of the massive amount of color data from the new URSA Mini Pro 12K sensor. This delivers even better color response for more pleasing skin tones, and better rendering of highly saturated colors such as neon signs and car tail lights in high contrast scenes. Generation 5 Color Science informs complex Blackmagic RAW image processing, with color and dynamic range data from the sensor preserved via metadata for use in post production. Compatible with all previously shot Blackmagic RAW files, Generation 5 Color Science lets customers take advantage of the new film curve even with their existing work.

Different projects require different lenses which is why URSA Mini Pro features an interchangeable lens mount. Customers can quickly switch between PL, EF and F mount lenses on the URSA Mini Pro 12K, as well as B4 lenses on the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2. That means customers can work with high quality large PL cinema lenses, EF or F mount photographic lenses, and even B4 broadcast lenses, making URSA Mini Pro compatible with the widest possible range of professional lenses.

"Since we released the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, we’ve been hard at work to make the camera even better for new production methods such as virtual production with LED video walls," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO, "That’s why we have have taken considerable time and effort to develop an optical low pass filter that is perfectly matched to the sensor and not only reduces artifacts such as moire, but preserves and enhances the details and color the URSA Mini Pro 12K is renowned for. I can’t wait to see what DOPs can do with this high resolution camera in virtual productions!"

Blackmagic Design Announces New DeckLink IP HD
New family of capture and play back PCIe cards for 2110 IP broadcast systems.

NAB 2023, Las Vegas, USA - Sunday, April 16, 2023 - Blackmagic Design today announced DeckLink IP, a new family of PCIe cards that capture and playback 10-bit uncompressed, broadcast quality video directly into 2110 IP based broadcast systems. DeckLink IP cards support multiple video channels plus each channel can capture and playback at the same time. DeckLink IP provides total IP network security as all video is captured and played back using the DeckLink IP’s frame buffers, which act like a video based firewall isolating the ethernet port from anything other than video and audio. DeckLink IP will be available in June from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide from AU$545.

The DeckLink IP will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2023 booth #N2601.

DeckLink IP cards are the easiest way to capture and play back video directly into 2110 IP based broadcast systems. They have the same DeckLink features so all customers existing software will just work. This means customers can build racks of servers generating broadcast graphics, virtual sets, or GPU based AI image processing, all directly integrated into 2110 IP broadcast infrastructure. Customers can even use DaVinci Resolve for 2110 IP based broadcast editing workstations! DeckLink IP features a high speed PCIe connection so it works on the latest Mac Pro, Windows and Linux computers.

There are three models in the new DeckLink IP family. DeckLink IP HD features 3 channels of capture and playback to 2110 IP broadcast systems via a single RJ45 style Ethernet connection. DeckLink IP HD Optical features 3 channels of capture and playback to 2110 IP broadcast systems via an SFP based optical fiber Ethernet connection. DeckLink IP/SDI HD allows connection to both 3G-SDI and 2110 IP systems. This model has 2 capture and playback channels to 2110 IP via RJ45 Ethernet, 3G-SDI and reference out. All models support 720p, 1080i and 1080p video standards up to 1080p60.

DeckLink IP cards conform to the SMPTE ST2110 standard for IP video, which specifies the transport, synchronization and description of video, audio and ancillary data over managed IP networks for broadcast. It also keeps video sources in sync using a common PTP clock. DeckLink IP supports SMPTE-2110-20 uncompressed video, SMPTE-2110-21 traffic shaping/timing, SMPTE-2110-30 audio and SMPTE-2110-40 for ancillary data. The big advantage of SMPTE 2110 is all video, audio and ancillary data are transported independently over the network. Plus DeckLink IP supports multicast, which is an extremely efficient way of distributing video, audio and data from a single source to multiple destinations.

The problem with computers and 2110 IP video networks is the vulnerability to rogue software or even hackers. That’s because anyone can send data to the computer’s Ethernet connection. However DeckLink IP eliminates this problem because all video is transferred using frame buffers. It’s like a video based firewall. This means the DeckLink IP Ethernet port is isolated from anything other than video and audio. Instead, like all DeckLink cards, the video and audio are transferred to on board DeckLink frame buffers where video playback is managed and then converted to 2110 IP video channels. This means it’s totally impossible for rogue software or hackers to access the 2110 IP network directly.

With a high speed 4 lane PCI Express interface, DeckLink IP cards feature a PCIe connection to the host computer that's fast enough to handle multiple HD video channels, as well as simultaneous capture and playback on each of the channels. With PCI Express, customers get very low latency combined with highly accurate time synchronization to the software that's capturing or playing video. Only DeckLink IP cards give customers this performance all while using a simple and low cost 4 lane PCIe connection. This means customers can install DeckLink IP into compact and very low cost computers. Plus DeckLink IP HD and DeckLink IP HD Optical are low profile, so they can be installed in rack mount servers.

DeckLink IP connections are multi rate so they support all SD and HD formats. Plus the DeckLink IP/SDI model includes both 2110 IP and 3G-SDI on the same card, so it can connect to all their existing SDI broadcast equipment, while simultaneously connecting to new IP based infrastructure. Or customers can just use the 3G-SDI output for local monitoring. In standard definition, DeckLink IP supports both 525i59.94 and 625i50 standards. In high definition, DeckLink IP cards support all 720p video standards up to 720p60, all 1080 interlaced standards up to 1080i60 and all 1080p standards up to 1080p60. Plus there is no complex change over as the cards can switch instantly to a new video standard.

DeckLink IP cards are designed to support the highest quality video. Customers get support for capture and playback to popular video formats such as Apple ProRes, DNxHD or even 10-bit uncompressed, so users are never locked into a single file format. 10-bit is the most commonly used television standard as colors can be represented with 4 times the precision of 8-bit video. Only working with 10-bit uncompressed video will ensure all images are a perfect pixel for pixel clone of the original source, so users are always working at the absolute highest quality possible. This means customers get the sharpest green screen keying, seamless VFX compositions and superior color correction.

DeckLink IP supports all popular video software, so users are free to work with the tools customers already know and like. DeckLink IP is perfect for using DaVinci Resolve as a 2110 IP based broadcast editing and color correction solution. Because DeckLink IP supports capture and playback at the same time, customers can even use the live grading feature in DaVinci Resolve to capture video, apply color correction and then output it all at the same time. DeckLink IP also works with other editing software including Final Cut Pro, Media Composer, Premiere Pro and more. Customers can even create stunning visual effects with Fusion, After Effects and Photoshop. Plus a Windows WDM driver is also included.

When customers need to run their broadcast programming remotely, for either a large broadcast network or local television station, DeckLink IP can be easily combined within their custom broadcast automation systems. There are so many fantastic automation tools and on the Mac platform, customers can use Tools On Air just: Broadcast Suite, Softron OnTheAir, MovieRecorder and OnTheAir CG. On the Windows platform, customers get compatibility with Vidblaster X, Studio and Broadcast, Uniplay and Playbox AirBox. These powerful software tools work with DeckLink IP to manage all types of broadcast automation tasks, and they are proven solutions that are currently running thousands of television stations worldwide.

DeckLink IP works the same as other DeckLink cards, so it’s also fully compatible with popular video and audio streaming software. This means customers can build streaming workstations that let customers live stream to millions of global viewers online. On the Mac, customers get fantastic streaming solutions such as Open Broadcaster, Wirecast, Livestream Producer and more. When streaming on Windows, customers get compatibility with Open Broadcaster, Xsplit Broadcaster, Wirecast and Livestream Producer. With DeckLink IP, customers can take any 2110 IP feed and convert into live streams to as many online platforms as customers need. Or with the ATEM Streaming Bridge, customers can even link up remote broadcast networks.

Available free with all DeckLink cards is an advanced developer SDK for Mac, Windows and Linux that customers can download free of charge. The developer SDK makes it easy to develop their own custom solutions for in house use, or to sell to other broadcasters. The DeckLink SDK provides low level control of hardware when customers need flexibility, as well as high level interfaces which are a lot easier to use when customers need to perform more common tasks. Thousands of manufacturers and developers use Blackmagic DeckLink cards in their products, so customers get the confidence that the DeckLink SDK will provide a solid foundation for developing commercial quality broadcast solutions.

“Developers have been asking us for a solution to be able to capture and playback 10-bit, uncompressed video directly into 2110 IP broadcast systems,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “What’s really exciting is that DeckLink IP also provides a secure video network, as the frame buffers act like a video based firewall to protect their network from rogue software or hackers. This means that developers can now build 2110 IP video networks that are incredibly secure.”

Availability and Price
DeckLink IP will be available in June from AU$545 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.

The Universal Rack Shelf lets customers install up to 3 Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter 3x3G units side by side for a total of 9 separate input and output channels in a single rack unit. They can also be remote managed over Ethernet. With conversion to and from 3G-SDI in the same unit, it can handle a wide range of equipment. Simply add a Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter 3x3G to live production switchers, disk recorders, playback servers, streaming processors and more.

Unlike using a mess of mini converters, Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter 3x3G is rack mountable and includes a front panel with LCD, so customers can walk up and change settings at any time. The front panel LCD also has the benefit of allowing live video monitoring of all input and output channels. Plus, the LCD includes network diagnostics tools to assist in diagnosing problems in complex 2110 IP broadcast systems. The LCD also includes routing menus for selecting the IP source for each of the 3G-SDI outputs. It’s just like a mini router. With active fan based cooling, the converters will stay cool, even when rack mounted side by side. For redundancy, customers also get both AC and PoE+ Ethernet power.

The Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter includes 3 x 3G-SDI outputs and 3 x 3G-SDI inputs with loop outputs. Plus the 10G Ethernet connection supports 3 input and 3 output channels all at the same time. The channels are independent so they can be completely different video standards. Each 3G-SDI input features re-sync, so customers can connect any SDI source and the input video will be re-timed to the 2110 PTP clock automatically. Plus there's a reference output so customers can lock external SDI equipment to the 2110 PTP clock if customers don't want the re-sync to be used. The Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter eliminates annoying power bricks as it features 100-240V AC power as well as PoE+ on the 10G Ethernet port.

Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter conforms to the SMPTE ST2110 standard for IP video, which specifies the transport, synchronization and description of video, audio and ancillary data over managed IP networks for broadcast. It can also re-sync SDI inputs to a common PTP clock or external gear can lock to the reference output that’s also generated from the PTP clock. Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter supports SMPTE-2110-20 uncompressed video, SMPTE-2110-21 traffic shaping/timing, SMPTE-2110-30 audio and SMPTE-2110-40 for ancillary data. Plus Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter supports multicast, which is an efficient way of distributing video, audio and data from a single source to multiple destinations.

Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter supports the NMOS interface specifications so all 2110 IP video devices can operate together as a large virtual router. Plus Videohub Smart Control Pro can route sources to destinations on 2110 IP networks because it can act as an NMOS controller. The NMOS interface specification describes how SMPTE 2110 devices such as DeckLink IP are discovered and controlled on IP networks. Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter supports IS-04 for discovery and registration of IP video devices and IS-05 for connection management between IP video devices. This means customers can make connections between sources and destinations just like a traditional SDI router.

When customers have a lot of equipment installed throughout complex broadcast systems, remote administration of the equipment is vital for diagnosing problems, changing settings and upgrading software. The Blackmagic Converter Utility can be downloaded free of charge so customers can update the converter software and change settings. Plus it’s available on both Mac and Windows. The software can be connected directly to the USB port on the front panel, or for remote administration customers can connect via the Ethernet connection and their IP network. This means in large facilities customers can update all the converter software from a single computer. That’s great when the converters are located offsite.

Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter’s 3G-SDI connections support both SD and HD video standards. This means it can connect existing SDI broadcast equipment to new IP based infrastructure. In standard definition, Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter supports both 525i59.94 and 625i50 standards. In high definition, Blackmagic 2110 IP Converter supports all 720p video standards up to 720p60, all 1080 interlaced standards up to 1080i60 and all 1080p standards up to 1080p60. Plus there is no complex change over as each converter channel will switch instantly to a new video standard totally independent of each other. This means customers can run 3 different video standards at the same time.

“10G Ethernet means each converter can support 3 input and 3 output channels in total so customers can put 3 in a rack shelf and get up to 9 separate input and output channels in a single rack unit," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “The SDI loop outputs let you easily integrate IP video into an existing SDI system, so customers can have both SDI and IP systems running in parallel!”
