Matrox Announces X.mio3 IP Card to Help Broadcast Equipment Manufacturers Meet the Challenges of the SDI to IP Transition

Multi-channel video I/O over 10GbE card with onboard video processing supports emerging standards while respecting traditional broadcast workflows

MONTREAL — April 7, 2016 — Matrox® Video today announced the X.mio3 IP multi-channel video I/O over 10GbE card with onboard video processing to help broadcast equipment manufacturers meet the challenges of the SDI to IP transition. OEMs are invited to book a meeting with the Matrox OEM team at the 2016 NAB Show (Las Vegas, April 18-21, booth SL6317) to see a demonstration and discuss the complete Matrox developer products roadmap.

Matrox X.mio3 IP is a half-height, half-length PCIe card that offers multi-channel video I/O over 10 GbE plus onboard compositing, de-interlacing and up/down/cross scaling to free up CPU and GPU resources. It provides IP encapsulation of HD, 3G and 4K video for all IP transport protocols including SMPTE 2022-6, ASPEN, VSF TR-04, VSF TR-03 and Sony IP as well as support for an array of compression technologies including J2K, Sony LLVC and TICO to ensure interoperability with upstream and downstream equipment. Video-aware clocking guarantees non-bursty transmissions without CPU involvement. Built-in watchdog circuitry and intelligent IP bypass provide fail-safe mechanisms. Support for analog blackburst, SMPTE 2059 and IEEE 1588 offers genlock flexibility.

The Matrox DSX SDK offers a common API across all Matrox DSX Developer Products providing a full set of powerful tools including versatile file reading/writing, memory management, streaming synchronization, and a large selection of software codecs and effects. A prototyping tool provides a graphical representation of all components so developers can simulate and test their use cases within minutes, before writing a single line of code.

“Broadcasters will be coming to our booth at NAB this year expecting to hear about the evolution of our solutions from SDI input/output to IP input/output, which is a move they all expect to make in the coming years,” said Gerhard Lang, chief engineering officer, Vizrt. “Thanks to the new Matrox X.mio3 IP card, we will actually be able to show them enhancements to our IP workflow. The move was easy because the tried-and-true Matrox DSX SDK and the onboard processing are the same in this next generation product.”

“Our customers build some of the industry’s leading broadcast graphics systems, channel-in-a-box systems and video servers that provide 24/7 reliability in even the most demanding environments,” said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing, Matrox Video. “Our new hardware, feature rich-software and easy-to-use prototyping tools, plus our usual premium engineering support, will help them make the smooth transition from SDI to IP workflows they need to stay competitive.”
