Matrox Announces Linux Software Development Kit for SDI Video Cards

MONTREAL – April 4, 2013 — Matrox® Video today announced a Matrox DSX™ SDK for Linux®. Designed to enable rapid application development, this new SDK has a component-based architecture that provides a common API across the industry-leading Matrox DSX family of SDI video cards for developers. From a single development effort, broadcast equipment manufacturers can create a variety of products, such as live encoders, transcoders, video ingest/playout servers and broadcast graphics systems.

The Matrox DSX SDK for Linux uses a stream-based API that enables pipelined functionality within a memory centric architecture. It allows users to easily connect components in their applications to achieve a desired workflow while providing the flexibility for frame-accurate control. A prototyping tool provides a graphical representation of all hardware components so developers can simulate and test their use cases within minutes, before writing a single line of code.

The Matrox DSX hardware platforms are ideally suited for demanding broadcast environments. They provide multi-channel audio and video input and output at resolutions up to 4K at 60 frames per second. In addition, they feature built-in failsafe mechanisms, hardware scaling and video mixing, frame synchronization, and HANC and VANC support.

"OEMs come to Matrox for our 24/7 hardware reliability, our dedicated applications engineering support and our feature-rich Windows® SDK," said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing, Matrox. "Now, with this new SDK, Linux developers will also be able to take advantage of our superior hardware. We are offering them the tools they need to create a wide variety of dependable, cost-effective broadcast products."

Matrox DSX Developer Products will be showcased at the 2013 NAB Show in the Matrox booth SL4616.
