Canon C500 4K Cinema Raw Option for Convergent Design's Gemini 4:4:4

September 6th 2012, Colorado Springs, CO, USA,  Gemini 4:4:4 continues to amaze!  Convergent Design adds versatility to the Gemini 4:4:4 video recorder with the Canon 4K Cinema Raw Option. Features include support of up to 30 fps 4K raw with one Gemini 4:4:4; and 60 fps 4K raw and 120 fps HD using dual Gemini 4:4:4’s. This firmware option will be available coinciding with the delivery of the C500 for $2749 (AU$ Inc GST).

Convergent Design, maker of the popular nanoFlash, is a pioneer in digital recording solutions that are reliable, small, lightweight, durable, and affordable. Gemini 4:4:4 is no exception; superseding what has been possible in digital recording. The compact, ergonomic form factor of the C500 makes the pairing with Gemini 4:4:4 a natural fit. At a minimal size of 138 x 120 x 37 mm (5.4 x 4.7 x 1.6”), weighing in at 612 grams (1.35 lbs.), and consuming less than 16 watts of power, the pairing makes for the best mobile, untethered solution. With two-drive capacity, Gemini supports up to 1 Terabyte of storage for the longest record times available.

The Canon EOS C500 camera, expected for release in October 2012, features uncompressed 4K and 2K outputs via Dual Link HD-SDI 3G; ideal for Cinema, Episodic Television and VFX. Gemini 4:4:4, the leading full uncompressed recorder, is the ultimate solution for capture of Cinema Raw. An external recorder, such as the Gemini 4:4:4, is mandatory to capture Canon 4K Cinema RAW.

“Convergent Design is focused on leading the Cinematic Digital Technology curve by delivering advanced and affordable products that compliment market needs. The pairing of Gemini 4:4:4 with the C500 is a great example of our technological prowess. Mobile or mounted, there is no other solution that is as capable, affordable, or has a more streamlined workflow. We are quite excited about Canon Cinema Raw support”, says Amber Cowles, MarCom Director.

In addition, the Gemini 4:4:4 uniquely sports a 5” hi-bright LCD monitor for confidence monitoring and playback of the images; all deBayered in real-time. Gemini 4:4:4 records to 1.8” SSD’s, with a capacity of up to 512 GB at $1849 (AU$ Inc GST), the lowest price of any professional media for this caliber of recorder. Like all available options for the Gemini 4:4:4, the Canon 4K Cinema Raw Option is an easily installable firmware update.  No new media, nor any new hardware, are required. This option, along with our 3D Option and ARRIRAW Option, allow one Gemini 4:4:4 to be a most versatile recorder, preserving one’s investment.

“We are enthusiastic about our new Option. Only $2749 (AU$ Inc GST), for existing Gemini 4:4:4 owners, this option transforms your images from HD quality, to stunning Canon 4K crisp Cinema Art”, says Mike Schell, President.
